ATLANTA, G.A. – November 2017 – Stevens & Wilkinson, a full-service integrated architecture, engineering and interior design firm based in Atlanta, celebrates the completion of Market City Center, a 125-unit mixed-use development in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Designed by Stevens & Wilkinson, the development is expected to play a key role in the continuing revitalization efforts of the downtown area.

Considered one of the most important developments in Chattanooga by community leaders, the 10-story, $30-million Market City Center – the tallest building constructed in the heart of downtown Chattanooga since the 1970s – includes 21,000 square feet of ground-floor retail and restaurant space, 21,000 square feet of office space, parking and 125 one and two-bedroom apartment units.

“Market City Center’s impact on Chattanooga’s vibrant downtown can’t be overstated,” said Laura Morton, Project Architect. “We are thrilled to have been part of this project with great team members, including EMJ Corporation, who provided construction services, and developer The Simpson Organization with support from River City Company.”

Apartments range from 630 to 1050 square feet. There are eight different configurations of apartments, including three units for handicapped residents. Each unit features sliding glass doors, operable windows, LVT plank flooring and modern kitchens with granite tops and a stainless appliance package. As part of a payment-in-lieu-of-tax agreement with the city, 25 units will be classified as workforce housing with rental rates starting at about $800 a month. The most expensive apartments will cost about $2,000 a month.

Additionally, the new building is fully equipped with the latest technology, including pre-wired EPB fiber optic internet, to serve a millennial-friendly community. The site development includes open spaces, such as a luxurious outdoor rooftop area on the fourth floor that is ideal for community gatherings, a state-of-the-art fitness center, and a clubhouse complete with a full kitchen and lounge seating. Additionally, the project is built to LEED® Certified™ Silver requirements.

Construction of Market City Center began in early 2016 and ended with a grand opening event at the end of September 2017. The Simpson Organization was the developer on the project and has worked with Stevens & Wilkinson on other projects in the past, 401 10th Street Urban Residential and Townhomes, The Cigar Factory in Charleston, SC, and corporate headquarter master planning at Peachtree at 17th Street.
