Design Integration

Stevens & Wilkinson worked with the University of South Carolina on the addition and renovation of McMaster College, the University’s hub of visual art and design. In order to successfully integrate the architectural design of the addition, our design team utilized a landscaped courtyard to serve as the primary entry into the building, thus increasing circulation and overall efficiency.

Creating Consistency

Similar finishes, color, scale, massing, and detail were also incorporated into the design of the addition as a way to augment the historic design of the original building. Additionally, masonry on the building was cleaned and re-pointed to present a more consistent appearance. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, this newly renovated facility includes a number of classrooms, faculty offices, exhibit space, ceramic and printmaking studios, photography labs and a 94-seat auditorium.

This project is the historic renovation of the University of South Carolina’s McMaster College of the Arts.
