High Quality Finishes

The Kennesaw State University Health Sciences department constructed this building for the WellStar College of Health and Human Services. This new building provides space for the WellStar School of Nursing, the Department of Social Work and Human Services, and the Department of Health, Physical Education, and Sport Science Department. The high quality finishes and professional environment provide an elegant building that will attract and help the school retain quality students and faculty.

Complimenting Interiors

The interior design compliments the exterior of the building by including reveals and interior glazing, which are designed to be a continuation of the exterior curtainwall systems. The interiors color palette is comprised of warm color tones—browns and greens with momentary splashes of orange and gold—that are well paired with stone and wood. Other finishes include travertine flooring, solid-surface countertops, stone countertops, wood casework, wood paneling and decorative light fixtures.

Sustainable Design Elements

Some design elements integral to achieving LEED Silver certification include the selection of local carpet with recycled content, the specification of low VOC paints and adhesives and inclusion of acoustic tiles that contained recycled content. The Health Sciences Building represents the benefits of sustainable design and mirrors the students and faculty’s goal to provide a safe and healthy learning environment for the community.

The Health Sciences Building was an interior renovation of more than 190,000-square feet of space that achieved LEED Silver certification. The Architect of Record for the project is Cooper Carry.
