Addressing District Concerns

Stevens & Wilkinson worked with Richland One to address the District’s challenges surrounding circulation, storage and dining capacity at C.A. Johnson High School. In addition to the District’s concerns surrounding circulation and capacity, they also wanted to expand the campus to include a new 600-seat auditorium, main lobby area and 1,800-seat gymnasium.

Multi-Story Circulation

Functional concerns were also addressed in regards to the school’s main lobby, locker rooms and music areas. New changing rooms are located adjacent to the building’s instructional spaces to avoid problems surrounding multi-story circulation.

Multi-Functional Spaces

A new landscaped outdoor gathering space and courtyard includes a small amphitheater that can be used by both students and staff for outdoor learning activities and performances. Floor-to-ceiling windows capture the depth of the courtyard and serves as the building’s connector to both the new and existing structure.

Stevens & Wilkinson worked with Richland School District One on the renovation of C.A. Johnson High School. The design team successfully addressed concerns surrounding site circulation and capacity.
