A New Home for Habitat

Stevens & Wilkinson provided architectural, engineering and interior design services to Atlanta Habitat for Humanity for their relocation to a new site on Memorial Drive. Stevens & Wilkinson designed complete renovations to the 1950-era Pittsburgh Plate Glass distribution warehouse to accommodate the new 25,000-square foot Family Support Center and 45,000-square foot house crew operations warehouse. The project also included the design of a new flagship ReStore, a 24,000-square foot retail outlet.

Renovations For A Better Tomorrow

The 5.5-acre master plan includes employee, customer and volunteer parking, house crew trailer parking, and loading service areas. The project complies with the Beltline Overlay District's requirements for new sidewalks, street trees and landscaping.

Sustainable Features

The project includes several sustainable design features such as improved daylighting via a renovated clerestory system in the warehouse, use of reclaimed building materials, and a rainwater harvesting system which stores up to 70,000 gallons of water for re-use by neighboring Trees Atlanta.

A Note from Don Maddox, Jr., Executive Vice President and COO of Atlanta Habitat for Humanity

"Atlanta Habitat for Humanity engaged Stevens & Wilkinson to re-purpose a former 1950's glass distribution warehouse into a new Family Support Center, and Operations Center. The firm also worked on the design of a new ReStore facility, also located on the same site. These new facilities support our mission of making adequate and affordable housing a matter of conscience and action. During all phases of the project, Stevens & Wilkinson demonstrated considerable skill in managing the design within the budget and meeting our timetable for moving into the new facilities. The team remained resilient and creative dealing with the [numerous] discoveries found during a very challenging renovation. [In the end] the results have been a great benefit to our staff, customers and volunteers."
