Transforming a Department Store

SSOE | Stevens & Wilkinson renovated this former Belk’s Department Store into a “Class A” speculative office building by re-purposing the development to include two additional floors of office space, a garden level terrace, landscaped plaza, and lobby with core facilities.

Creating a Space Efficient Floor Plan

A space efficient floor plan was provided with a center core that utilized the building’s existing column locations, while the former corner stairways were relocated to provide premiere office layouts. The building, clad in a balanced combination of pre-cast concrete and glass, has an elevation that is composed of three distinct sections, reminiscent of traditional facades found in the surrounding area.

Landscaped Plaza

A wide entry bridge connects the front bowed portico with the landscaped plaza, while the bank lobby occupies the interior of the plaza level and is appointed in granite, exotic wood veneers and cast metal accents.
