The evolution of the classroom has led to exciting innovation in classroom design. Learning environments have changed as the needs of children have changed. The modern student seeks technology-friendly and collaborative learning spaces that encourage growth and innovation.

When designing educational facilities, we take into account a wide variety of elements. We have seen how individual curricula and programs need to drive the design solutions, and how the physical environment impacts student and teacher performance. Educational facilities are at the center of a community. They are places where students, teachers, faculty, and staff from all walks of life come together to not only learn but to grow. These buildings are more than just classrooms, lecture halls, laboratories, or residence halls, they are the places where 21st-century thinking is nurtured, and where social camaraderie is developed.

“Educational institutions can’t just plan for the students of today. We need to create flexible, adaptable spaces so that as generations and learning styles shift, the facilities can shift with them.”

-Kirk Marchisen, Principal and Vice President (SWGA)

We believe that any space can be used as a place for learning; however, when designed properly should foster innovation and enthusiasm for education. Stevens & Wilkinson takes great pride in developing these special environments. We have developed an award-winning Pre-K-12 studio that caters to the specific needs and unique criteria set forth by school districts throughout the southeast.

At SSOE | Stevens & Wilkinson, we’ve designed exceptional Pre-K-12 schools and C.A.T.E. Centers, for nearly 100 years across numerous school districts. By working closely with each district and their neighboring communities, we are able to make the most use of their budgets by successfully incorporating today’s leading technologies and emerging trends to create sustainable environments that support learning at all levels.

We respect the fact that projects for Higher Education are as diverse and unique as their campus communities. SSOE | Stevens & Wilkinson has designed several building types often found in today’s Higher Education communities. We take great pride in our growth and expertise in the design of innovative, forward-thinking and collaborative academic spaces.

To us, we believe that spaces within a technical college, university, or small college community should be collaborative, adaptable and inspirational. There is a passion and enthusiasm to how work, learning, research and life is done. As designers, we always look for, and actively seek out, those opportunities where we are able to learn from each other – important elements that directly benefit our clients and their communities, especially in the realm of higher education.

Throughout the Southeast region, SSOE | Stevens & Wilkinson has partnered with school districts, colleges, universities, trade schools, and other educational systems. Over the years, both public and private school districts, and colleges and universities alike have come to rely on us for a range services that include new construction, renovations, additions, and expansions.

“Designing for higher education can be exciting, as we develop spaces that match the diversity and uniqueness of a campus community.”

-Keith Branham, PE, LEED AP, Principal and Senior Vice President
