Stevens & Wilkinson worked closely with Putnam County School Board and GMK Associates, Inc to design this new high school for Putnam County Schools. The 177,000 sq ft facility is the first phase of a three-school master plan on 127 acres and is funded through voter-approved one cent sales tax. The new school is designed for 1,000, 9th through 12th grade students, with a core capacity for 1,200 students.
The Main Street circulation spine of the school interconnects a suite of key spaces physically and visually. The bright and airy material palette gives the campus a non-institutional appearance that frees students to achieve their creative potential. The new Putnam High School will also provide after-hours use of the black box theater for community programs, as the school’s goal to act as an anchor for the developing community.
