Matthew J. Perry United States Courthouse Parking Garage

Designed to meet the City of Columbia’s new “City Center Guidelines,” this six-story parking garage, with entry and exit points located off of two busy intersections, was built onto a sloping site and split by a parcel of land for better truck access to the adjacent facility. The steel frame is clad in precast with four corner towers weighing the two ends of the building’s rectangular shape. The middle section is visually lighter with the entry and exit designated by minor tower elements. A precast band unifies the two parts of the structure across the dividing property, while also separating the base from the precast towers. In addition, the facility was designed using a brick colonnade with screened openings running down the sloping site.
